In the early days at the investment bank, John and his colleagues searched in vain for an established method of predicting the future performance of businesses. As long term IT executives they were used to having tools, methods and systems available for all business processes.

At that time the idea of 360 degree assessment and balanced scorecards was being promoted for performance reviews. One of John’s colleagues asked &quot;Why can’t we do something similar but looking at the factors that affect future business performance?&quot;

Based on this initial idea a business assessment tool was developed to predict future performance of businesses. Used initially as an internal investment decision support tool, the system was developed further and used as a self assessment tool and investment support method by leading companies in various sectors around the world.

John discusses in more detail:

* How the tool was developed;
* How it has been used to date;
* What is happening with it today.</itunes:summary><itunes:author>RMIT University</itunes:author><itunes:duration>3205</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>RMIT, business, alumni, events, management, mbaalumni, cobalumni</itunes:keywords><itunesu:category itunesu:code="100"/> <guid>http://itunesu.its.rmit.edu.au/sites/default/files/itunesmedia/RMITGradSchoolBusiness_johnArundell_ITUNES.mp4</guid></item>

After graduating from RMIT Fine Art Ceramics, at the start of the 1990’s recession, Fiona Sullivan launched &#039;ChalkArt&#039;, a low cost start up supplying commercial art, Interior Design and Project Management for Major Construction Projects. Among the many aspects of building a successful business, the greatest focus was always on sustainability, teams and business management; these interests lead to the natural next step, selling the business, taking on the RMIT MBA and now entrepreneurship with RMIT Business Plan Competition, (getting students started with a &#039;new venture&#039; parachute and a focus on sustainability).

Fiona shares stories and career experience, from Fine Art to MBA, how the MBA is leading to work with her special interest &#039;entrepreneurship for sustainability&#039; ... and asks the big question: &quot;how to create sustainable business through a recession in the eco-age?&quot;</itunes:summary><itunes:author>RMIT University</itunes:author><itunes:duration>2649</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>RMIT, business, alumni, events, management, mbaalumni, cobalumni</itunes:keywords><itunesu:category itunesu:code="100"/> <guid>http://itunesu.its.rmit.edu.au/sites/default/files/itunesmedia/RMITGradSchoolBusiness_fionaSullivan_ITUNESU.mp4</guid></item>
