Professor George Cairns - Extreme scenario for reasonable futures

Addressing the roots of our upcoming crises.

There is a groundswell of belief that humanity faces multiple crises over the coming decades. These include: climate change, peak oil, pandemic, terrorism, etc. For many, the seriousness of these issues and their potential consequences is lost in the current short-termist and polarised political debate. I argue that through the development of 'extreme scenarios' for possible futures and the 'backward logic' of their causality, we can start to address their roots in the present to seek to move towards more reasonable futures.
