Liliya Gatina - The financial behaviour of immigrants to Australia

The spending habits of recent immigrants has a unique impact on the Australian economy.

Almost 30 per cent of the increase in the Australian population in 2010 was brought about by migration. Thus, immigrants’ financial behaviour can potentially have a huge impact on the Australian financial system.

By using Australian longitudinal data this thesis investigates if and how this behaviour differs from the native-born Australians, and how it is affected by the immigrants’ home country characteristics as well as by Australian immigration policies.
